On April 8, 2009, Pike Central High School picked up a HMMWV from Crane Naval Base with the help of Solar Sources, it is now parked at the Automotive Parking Area at the school. A group of thirteen students will be working on this project through out the year. These include, Josh Greenwell, Dustin Morton, Damon Steltenpohl, Richard Newkirk, C.M. Brown, Traivs Wood, Anna Woolery, Brandon Bohnert, Ethen Smith, BreAnn Lane, Alex Morton, Eric McCord, and Ian Dudenhoeffer.
As of right now the team is mainly gathering all the information they can and trying to determine the best way to go about the project. The teams task is to up the torque, increase the mpg, and change the diesel engine to a deisel/electric hybrid. Pike Central High School was given twenty four months to complete this project with the help of these companys; Jasper Engines and Transmissions, Crane, Indy Power, and Energel as well as a few local volunteers. Pike Central's team hopes to get the Humvee completed by this December. The team will be posting a week to week check up.
